*** These are findings and comparisons made from a “Stanley Quencher” which was returned to Stanley SA for a repair. This may not be indicative or apply to all counterfeit/fake products in circulation. ***

HOW TO SPOT A FAKE – THE HANDLE:

  • Handle is positioned 1cm lower on the FAKE; the ORIGINAL handle is closer to the top of the cup
  • The FAKE has a slightly smaller handle (11,7cm); ORIGINAL handle is 12,8cm long
  • Screws that attach the handle on the FAKE are standard Phillips but on the ORIGINAL they are hex head screws
  • The FAKE handle is made from a hard plastic with an obvious seam; the ORIGINAL handle is softer and smoother to the touch
  • The soft grip inserts protrude slightly on the FAKE; the ORIGINAL soft grip inserts are flush and slightly wider and softer

HOW TO SPOT A FAKE – THE LID:

  • The silver rim on the lip of the cup is wider on the FAKE (10mm); the ORIGINAL rim is 8mm wide
  • The FAKE as a slight blue hue to it whereas the ORIGINAL is made from a white BPA-free Tritan plastic
  • The lid on the FAKE does not close properly leaving a gap; the ORIGINAL closes flush with the cup
  • The rotating cover on the FAKE does not fit snugly in any of the three positions; the ORIGINAL slides perfectly into each position without any additional movement
  • The straw on the FAKE does not fill the hole; the ORIGINAL straw fits snuggly in the hole and is also longer
  • The corners of the drinking hole on the FAKE are a bit square; the ORIGINAL has slightly rounded corners

HOW TO SPOT A FAKE – MARKINGS

OVERALL APPEARANCE:

  • The FAKE does look genuine at first glance but when holding the two at the same time the FAKE is significantly lighter in weight; 530g vs 650g of the ORIGINAL
  • The logo placement on the FAKE is lower and a bit off centre on the FAKE compared to the ORIGINAL
  • The logo on the FAKE is a light brown hue and the print seems to scratch off easily; the ORIGINAL has a beige logo
  • The powder coat on the FAKE is a yellowy cream compare to the creamy white of the ORGINAL
  • The information at the base of the bottle on the FAKE is not printed clearly, underlined in places, a different font at times, and some words changed around
