The Opinel pocket knife is celebrating its 125th birthday!

It all began in a small village at the heart of the Alps. In 1890, Joseph Opinel was working in his father’s workshop, a blacksmith and edge makerin Albiez-le-Vieux. He designed and developed a small pocket knife aimed at farmers and local villagers. Very quickly, in response, to an increasing demand, he started his own workshop and designed ingenious machines for larger scale manufacturing.
